Today we took two teams of Year 10 Business students to Braintree Village to take part in the second part of the Made in Braintree competition. The teams were given a brief to develop an idea for a business to be located in a vacant lot at Braintree Village. The idea was to be centred around Sustainability, Community Involvement and Customer engagement.

This round was the pitches where each team got to present their completed idea to a panel of judges, including the Centre Director of Braintree village, his boss (the Chief Financial Officer of Landsec) and representatives from a local charity. The audience also comprised four other teams from schools in the area.

Our students, unfortunately, did not win the competition but I am incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves and of the work and effort they put in to the task. They acted professionally throughout and were a credit to themselves and to the school. It is not easy to stand up and speak in front of strangers or peers, but to do both at the same time is a really special achievement and something they should celebrate.
