KS3 Science Live Trip
Around 50 year 9 students attended this year's KS3 Science Live event. The morning began in London at the Emmanuel Centre with a series of talks from established scientists including Prof Robert Winston, Dr Maggie Aderin – Pocock, Anna Ploszajski, Tomi Akingbade and Tobi Alegbe. The students were able to hear about how these scientists became established in their fields.
The students particularly enjoyed the question and answer session with the renowned Professor Robert Winston and hearing about space from Astrophysicist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, who was fresh from the Johnathan Ross show the night before.
We then headed to the Science Museum for the afternoon. Here we were able to explore the David Sainsbury Technician Gallery, where students could;
Setting foot inside Shuri’s Lab from Marvel Studio’s Black Panther to re-enact the role of a film lighting technician.
Have a go at making lifesaving medicine as an NHS pharmacy technician.
Operate a robotic arm and try your hand at welding a rollercoaster track.
Step into the world of renewable energy and solve problems faced by a wind turbine technician.
The students were fantastic throughout the day and by far the best-behaved school at the Science Live event. I would like to thank the staff and students who made the trip so successful.
