Homework

Introduction:

At Hedingham School we endeavour to provide a safe, supportive environment where children can learn, grow and succeed. Our aim is that all children achieve their true potential. Although mindful of the pressures of a school day, homework is set to complement work done in classrooms, develop an appreciation of the importance of independent study and support accelerated pupil achievement.

Aims:

Through our homework we aim to:

  • Raise attainment and accelerate progress through consolidating and reinforcing knowledge and skills acquired in School
  • To encourage self-discipline and self-motivation
  • Develop and apply a wide range of key skills which will enable children to grow into resilient, independent and positive citizens. 
  • Develop independent learning skills that enable children to learn efficiently and make sustained progress.
  • To facilitate and encourage parent involvement
  • Sharpen student enthusiasm towards learning and encourage student curiosity within a rich and balanced curriculum.

Homework tasks may include:

  • Reading
  • Exam question practice
  • Learning for tests
  • Internet search or other forms of research
  • Making notes, drafting and writing of essays
  • Acquiring or collecting resources or information
  • Practice of skills and processes
  • Analysis or interpretation

Years 7 & 8:

Students in Year 7 & 8 will have weekly homework tasks set in English, Maths and Science.  These homework tasks are differentiated between classes and content will reflect current progress within Schemes of Work. Students enter the details of the homework task in their school planners. A copy of the Year 7 and 8 homework information booklet can downloaded at the bottom of this page.

Extended Projects:

In Year 8 and 9 students will also be set subject specific extended projects. The extended projects set are designed to be completed by students over the course of a half term. 

The aim of the extended project is to:

  • Foster subject interest and wider thinking
  • Develop a wider understanding of the subject
  • Promote independent learning skills and time management
  • Improve research skills
  • Improve written communication

Internal end of year examination revision

Students will be expected to complete one project per half term in only one of the above listed subject areas.  These projects are available at the link below. Please note that Computer Science homework is distributed digitally via OneNote, a downloadable/printable copy is available below if students do not have access to a laptop/desktop/tablet with a web browser at home. Students can then submit this work to their teacher.

Languages and Art will set homework in relation to schemes of work.  These will be recorded into student planners.

Year 9

Students in Year 9 will have weekly homework tasks set in English, Maths, Science, History and Geography.  Homework may be set on occasion in other subject areas in relation to schemes of work.  Students record homework tasks in their planner.

Years 10 & 11

Students can expect a weekly homework in each subject area.  Students record homework tasks in their planner. Homework tasks are likely to include independent revision and examination preparation.
