Physical Education
The purpose of the PE curriculum at Hedingham is to provide students with the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of physical activities. The aim is to develop the fundamental and core skills required to produce effective performances. The curriculum has been carefully planned to ensure that all pupils are prepared for the level of skill required for practical performances on our BTEC level 1/2 and Level 3. Sports Teams
Students who are part of a competitive team are pre-selected for the enrichment by the PE Department, based on attendance and performance at training. We compete in leagues for both boys and girls in the majority of the sports on our enrichment program at a district level. But we compete at county level for Football, Rugby, Cross-Country Running and Athletics.
Alongside these leagues we compete in Sports Hall Athletics, Futsal, Horse riding, Rifle shooting and Golf.
House Competitions
Our students are encouraged to participate in physical activity through our House system. Throughout the year the PE Department host half-termly competitions including football, basketball, netball, tag-rugby, table-tennis, handball and badminton. The PE department hosts an annual Sports Day in July each year, which is the final major house competition of the year before the announcement of the house cup winner.
Leadership
At Hedingham we strongly believe in developing the key skills of our students. Through their PE lessons they are encouraged to develop their leadership skills through our Sport Education unit of work. In this unit, students compete for points based each student having a specific role e.g. Kit manager and are awarded points for how well each task is competed. This starts in lessons and overtime the level of responsibility increases as the students develop. The Overall goal is for them to be able to lead small groups for a whole lesson. We link this in with our CSLA program in our 6th form. Students who are interested in leading will join our course in year 12. Within this course, students coach our primary feeder schools and run competitions the primary schools our house competitions.
