Jack Petchey Awards

We are delighted to announce that Hedingham School is participating in the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme.

The Jack Petchey Foundation was established by the successful East London entrepreneur, Jack Petchey, in 1999. It is a young, progressive grant making Trust based in Ilford Essex. It is now among the largest and most influential London charitable foundations. It focuses on projects and programmes that benefit 11-25 year olds.  The main area of operation is the London boroughs and Essex, where it currently operates in 1,600 secondary schools and youth clubs. The Foundation is eager to help young people take advantage of opportunities and play a full part in society.

In 1945 at the end of the Second World War Jack Petchey left the Navy and became a clerk. He was told by the personnel officer of his firm: "You'll never make a businessman". However, this discouraging remark did not prevent him from becoming one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Britain!

Each month participating schools/colleges select one student to receive an Achievement Award. The month’s winner receives a framed certificate and a cheque (payable to the school) to be spent on a school or community project of the recipient’s choice.

The scheme allows us to recognise students’ effort, endeavour, achievement and contribution to the school community in a very positive way. Students are nominated each month by fellow students and staff. The nominations are considered by the School Council who make recommendations to the Headteacher who chooses the award winner.
